Designwerk: Swiss Pioneer in Electric Mobility Becomes Part of the Volvo Group
Founded in 2007, Designwerk GmbH quickly established itself as one of Switzerland’s leading providers of electric mobility solutions. The company later evolved into Designwerk Technologies AG, specializing in the development and production of innovative technologies for electric commercial vehicles.
In 2025, Designwerk Technologies AG was fully acquired by the Volvo Group. This milestone marked the beginning of a new chapter, integrating the company’s expertise into a global organization and creating a strong foundation for future growth and the international expansion of its technologies.
Designwerk Technologies AG’s product portfolio includes Designwerk electric trucks (E-Trucks), Mobile DC Chargers (MDCs), and modular battery systems for electric vehicles and specialized applications. Among its key achievements is the development of Switzerland’s first fully electric refuse collection vehicle, setting an important benchmark for sustainable municipal transportation.
Designwerk’s mobile fast-charging solutions have also earned an excellent reputation across Europe and are widely used by vehicle manufacturers.
