Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere but have limitations: They charge slowly and are temperature-sensitive. BTRY, a spin-off from Empa and ETHZ, is developing a solid-state battery that offers high energy density and reliability, fast charging capabilities in just one minute, and extended temperature stability. In this presentation, I will discuss thin-film solid-state batteries and highlight some of the advantages of vacuum deposition techniques for battery fabrication. I will also talk about our journey from lab to company and outline our future plans.
